NSK Delivers 12-Ton Slewing Bearing to Northern Ontario

An NSK slewing bearing was recently delivered to a steel mill in Northern Ontario to act as a spare after the previous spare was put into service. Prior to the replacement, the mill took every precaution to preserve this expensive bearing, which was in place for 15 years.

NSK’s maintenance package for the mill consists of a custom-made storage tank carefully constructed with 2 oil sample ports, pressure filtration and custom designed baskets for storing the bearing rollers. The newly delivered bearing will now sit submerged in an oil bath disassembled until the running bearing needs to be replaced.

Components of the NSK delivery included:

1. Slewing Ring: 18 foot OD, 24,000 pounds, 3 rows with 1,000 rollers
2. Tank (19 foot OD, 6,500 pounds)
3. Fastener Set: nuts, bolts, washers, screws - including a 760mm long screw, 3,600 pounds total.
